Why I Don’t Recommend Ubersuggest by Neil Patel

I used to be a fan of Ubersuggest. Back in 2021 or 2022, I purchased the Individual Lifetime plan when it was first introduced. As a casual blogger, I thought it was a perfect fit — simple, affordable, and offered just enough tools for basic SEO.
But recently, after returning to blogging, I logged into my Ubersuggest account and was shocked by what I found.

1. My Projects Were Deactivated Without Warning
Due to various personal reasons and external circumstances, I had paused my blogging for a while. When I logged back in, I discovered that Ubersuggest had completely deactivated my old projects. I understand if data is no longer being crawled or updated — that’s fine. But stopping the projects entirely? That’s unreasonable.
For comparison, I’ve had a free project on SEMrush for even longer, and they continue to update and email me with insights about my site’s rankings and SEO performance. That’s the kind of long-term value I expected from a paid lifetime tool.

2. Feature Limitations (a.k.a. Functionality Downgrade)
After re-adding my project, I noticed that some features had been downgraded. For example, the number of keywords and regions I could track had decreased. Worse, it kept pushing me to “add competitors,” and there was no option to turn this off. Not everyone needs that feature — especially individual bloggers like me.
3. SD (SEO Difficulty) Now Requires Extra Credits?
This was the biggest surprise. In the past, when I searched for a keyword, Ubersuggest would show SEO Difficulty (SD) data by default. Now, it requires extra credits to access. Why? I’m already a paid lifetime user. This kind of change feels like a bait-and-switch.

4. Constant Pressure to Upgrade to Business Plan
I’m clearly on the Individual plan — which should be more than enough for a solo blogger. But Ubersuggest keeps pushing me to upgrade to the Business plan. It feels like I’m being told: “You’re not a real user unless you pay more.”
5. The Whole Platform Is Now Packed with Paid Add-Ons
Everywhere I click, I see reminders of features that are only available to higher-tier (usually Business) plans. The interface feels cluttered with upgrade prompts. This wasn’t what I signed up for. The promise was lifetime access without extra fees — so why does it feel like I’m being penalized just because I bought the plan early?

Final Thoughts
Ubersuggest had great potential, especially for early adopters like me who supported the platform from the beginning. But over time, it has become increasingly commercialized, cluttered with upgrade nags, and less user-friendly for those who aren’t paying monthly fees.
If you’re a solo blogger or a small site owner, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere. Even some free tools provide a more stable and respectful experience than what Ubersuggest now offers to its so-called “lifetime” users.
